Undergrad Researcher, Spring 2019-Spring 2021
Person Type:

Hometown: Naperville, IL
Major: Chemical Engineering BSE

Why this group?
Our group is unique because we are constantly doing what we can to challenge ourselves and help each other to improve academically.

What makes you passionate about your work?
I am driven to contribute to this group because I encounter many challenges that help me to think in different ways than I am used to.

What is your project?
We are looking at various bimetallic catalysts to find an ideal active site for atmospheric carbon dioxide to readily bind to, so we can later convert it into a liquid fuel.

Why is it interesting?
Unfortunately, our planet is in a very fragile state and greenhouse gases (like CO2) are contributing to major detrimental changes to the environment. If we succeed in finding a cost effective way to extract CO2 from the atmosphere, we can potentially conquer a key battle in the fight against climate change.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
So far, my favorite work activity is learning to use Gaussian to construct different molecules.

Why UIowa?
It's a big school that feels small when you need it. There are endless resources that are available to help you improve yourself in various ways.

Role in Group:
Assisting Hayley in building and observing different molecules on the computer

What are your future career plans?
After graduation, I plan on working in pharmaceuticals or even for a skin care company. Eventually, I would love to use my ChemE degree to research new solutions to climate change.
